The Urban Hiker

There are not a lot of "trendy" things I am completely sold on. Like sequins for instance. This past season you couldn't pick up a cami that wasn't completely covered in gaudy glitter. Now, I am not a complete sequin hater but there is a time and a place for the stuff, and I whole heartily believe unless you are a direct kin of Cher or Rue McClanahan*, sequin wearing needs to be in moderation.

Anywho, one trend I did hop on was the hiker boot. Aside from being adorably ironic, they are easy to dress up or down and I couldn't fathom living without these. Before the big purchase, I did my research and found these: Jeffrey Campbell Lace Up Boot. Like most things, I bought them and then immediately went on sale. Such is life.

What really inspired me to write about these was the amount of shit I got for wearing them at a gathering I went to last night. "Intense" and "Wicked Witch of the West" were two of the many colorful adjectives I got thrown at me. Sticks and Stones, baby.

Of course this was all good and fun, and the main perpetrator eventually fell asleep with her hands down her pants on the couch so that was enough for me to have the last laugh :)

Please note: I have done absolutely no hiking in these. Unless of course you consider trekking up the broken escalators at the Porter Square T station hiking. This girl sure does.

Spring Countdown

With all of this snow we've been having, I needed a little pick me up.... aka perusing the new designer summer collections online. These three girls are from the Marc Jacobs Resort 2011 collection.

So cute. I die.

I can't stop imagining myself wearing the middle number on a yacht in June, somewhere off the shore of Newport RI while enjoying a blackberry mojito.  Realistically, I probably wont be doing any of these things... especially if I buy this dress. But if I play my cards right, perhaps I can meet a nice yachtsman at the waterfront bar at H2o* and he can buy me the dress?...

Ho Hum. A girl can dream right?

And by the way... 51 days 'till spring... we may or may not have a countdown at work.

*H2o- waterfront restaraunt and bar on Thames Street in Newport RI. Great food, breathtaking views, hot, rich possible sugar daddy's. http://www.h2onewport.com/

Mad for Mad Men

These little numbers are 3 out of the 4 Corey Rd girls dresses for our Mad Men cocktail party this evening.

To the left we have Katherine's light lime and silver chiffon embroidered frock from Oona's in Cambridge. The middle dress is beautiful yellow sequin, being worn by the birthday girl... complements of The Great Eastern Trading Company in Cambridge. And finally, the sassy pink gem to the right is taffeta and adorned with a classic large bow in the center. Being worn by yours truly and was found at the Buffalo Exchange in Allston!
Beehives, cat eyeliner and red lipstick sold separately.

Now can you picture three lovely young ladies in these dresses with Old Fashions* in one had and Lucky Strikes in the other?

*Old Fashion- 2oz bourbon whisky, 2 dashes bitters, 1 splash water, 2 tsp sugar, 1 maraschino cherry, 1 slice orange, and a partridge in a pear tree.

What Started It All.

Nail polish...

fun.
colorful.
expensive?

If spending 18 dollars on a bottle of NARS nail polish and only wearing it once isn't superfluous, I don't know what is.

This I assure you, was not an impulse purchase. At the time I had a job that did not allow me to wear anything but clear polish, so the first chance I got I ran to Sephora and picked out the darkest color that wasn't black. It is almost the one year anniversary of my new job, so I think I'll throw it on in honor of my clear nail liberation.

Judge if you will, but it's the greatest metallic shade of aubergine* I have ever witnessed.

*french for eggplant- beautiful food, delicious color.
